As there is a limit in length, your work should express an idea with supporting evidence in form of an article. Start with the Short Essay Outline

The short essay must abide by a logical template. Make up your assignment using five different sections:

  • Title
  • Introduction (thesis statement)
  • Paragraph 1 (paragraph leader)
  • Paragraph 1 (paragraph body)
  • Paragraph 2 (paragraph leader)
  • Paragraph 2 (paragraph body)
  • Conclusion (summary or future suggestion, recommendation or solution)

Remember, that you have a strict word limitation. On the other hand, it doesn’t mean that it is necessary to restrain your free train of thoughts. In some particular cases, the best way to approach a short essay is to write a full-length one and then cut it down. Let yourself write without time limits and length constraints. Take into account the type of your papers(is it literary, research or personal?).

Because organization is an important part of writing, let us look more closely at the different sections.

The Title

The title is the first section and in many ways the most important part of the essay. Highlight the hidden question in the title and stick with it. How to find it? For instance, in sample “Discuss the reasons why students prefer to study abroad”, the hidden question will be “why students prefer to study abroad.” Keep your assignment focused on answering the prompt.

The Introduction

The introduction performs the function of a map for your readers. The introduction  has two parts. This part gives some background to the topic. The second part has a narrower focus and tells the reader exactly why you are writing the essay. It is the thesis statement. Your introduction acts like a map for your papers readers. A good introduction addresses the “what,” “why,” and “how” of your topic.

Actually, the paragraph of your essay can also be broken down into two parts. The first part introduces the reader to the focus of the paragraph. It is the paragraph leader. The second part is the paragraph body. It develops the idea as introduced in the first part. The paragraph body develops the ideas which have been introduced in the paragraph leader. CONTENT provided in the paragraphs will obviously determine how well you answer the question.

The Conclusion

The conclusion is the final part of the essay structure. It can be also divided into two parts. This part summarizes the ideas in the work. The second part has a wider focus as it gives a suggestion for the future. This could be a prediction, or a recommendation, or a solution to a problem. Try to limit your conclusion to no more than three sentences.
